The 4 day Duluth Classic Stage Race ended yesterday. I raced the 35+ open. Heres my recap:
Day 1
: 16 mile TT in Wrenshall. I borrowed a bike for this. It fit ok. Suffered on the finishing stretch(headwind, uphill). Came in about 4 minutes down from the leader. Fun race though. (during the fast tailwind section, I actually felt like I was Armstrong)Day 2: 3 lap 60 mile road race in South Range. One gradual hill. One bad pot hole stretch. I was out of position on the final climb and missed the break. Chased with Cullen and Chad(SC) for a bit but then faded back to the upcoming group of Brone and Aplasa. Us 3 came in 4 minutes back. More time loss. (Bell was a horse)
Day 3: 60 mile road race in Lakewood. Course had the famous 1000 meter 8% climb. The finish was also on top. Mark Brone was out front alone for 3 laps. I always feel a bity edgy and needed to go hard now and then. Not to real back in Brone, but just to string things out and have some fun. With about 2 miles to go, I took a flyer and went hard solo. I couldnt tell what the group was doing and couldnt hold a steady pace, and backed down before the final climb. The pack came and went. I suffered up the final climb coming and came in less than a minute behind the winner. Great course!
Day 4: Cloquet Crit. 40 minutes. Started in cold rain. Won a prime, knotted up on the break with Maxwell and Alberotos and bagged it soon after.
I had a cold all weekend and never had a clear nasal cavity. Great fun put on by Tone Coughlin! Great job to Jacobs who won the GC.
H-WOOD won the Cloquet Crit in hollywood fasion. Does anybody have a picture of his finish...???
Silver Cycling had all kinds of riders in many categories. So, check out the results. The women Cat 4 Silver ladies kicked some butt!! (Kristy, Jackie and Amy)
Our 35+ open roster was: Chad Christenson, Matt Muyres, H-Wood, and Todd Heiser
For next year, start with the South Range race, then the TT....??
