My focus for this past weekend was the Square Lake RR on saturday, followed by something on sunday. The road race was jiggy:
Somewhat stable and uneventful for 3 laps. Even Dale came up to me and said, "not much going on, huh,?" I said back, "Sprint Street hasnt done much." But the group stayed together up the hill for 3 laps. Everybody got their water, everybody pretty much got their wind back. The fourth lap, things ramped up and Pete, Dale, Mike J, Jim C and just about anybody tried flyers and fast stuff at the front. I didnt have enough to break away, solo or even double up for a break, so I was content in staying near the front and waiting for the last hill climb. (SILVER CYCLING 35+ group: HWOOD, Todd Hesier, Tim May, Mark Kowalih, Chad Christenson)

Coyle and Maxwell got a nice gap on the last climb and had to be reeled in. Mainly by Pete, Dale, and Alpasa. I made my way to near the front and was on Petes wheel for the last half mile. At 500 meters, it was Pete, me and someone behind me. Pete, at 200 meters, stood up and hammered. A mild up hill finish strung people out. I never looked behind to see the chaos. I couldnt hold Petes wheel and fell a bit back to 5th overall. Was passed by Mike Johnson(2nd), Jim Cullen(3rd), and my teammate Chad Christneson(4th). 35$ entry fee, 10$ winnings, 80 miles of driving.
The next day I made an early call to Mark Kowaliw and said that my motivation to heading down to Mankato for the Bluff Riders mtn bike race was low and getting lower. So I skipped that race and caught some more sleep. The St Cloud crit was later in the day and I opted to drive up and try that out. Things went well as I found myself in a 3 man break for the last few laps until the finish. I played the last lap way wrong. We had a big enough lead over the group that I 'should' have slowed up a bit and played 'cat and mouse' with Ray Coyle and Pete Maxwell, the other two in the break. But I didnt and was leading through the second to last corner. Wrong position for a sprint. I ended up 3rd but was happy with my effort for the day. $30 entry fee, $40 winnings, 140 miles of driving.
